Stunningly recorded, this digital release signals a paradigm shift in new noise textures. Featuring the brutal vocals of Mike Pride and id m theft able, this release is a roller coaster ride of harrowing scenarios born of bored nights in the sticks in southern Maine. Combine with wasteland visions of Flatlands, Brooklyn channeled through Jamie Saft's microtonal synthesis and slide guitar onslaught and "Utica Ave." is born. THE SPANISH DONKEY - XYX (Northern Spy Records) CD + Download [2011]

Joe Morris- electric guitar
Jamie Saft- keyboards, bass
Mike Pride- drums, percussion, nose whistle
"...This music harks back to the early days of free/jazz/rock. It is an hour long with just two long tracks. When we played this in the store recently, someone remarked that this music was ugly & evil. Hmmmm. I am not so sure about that, but it is a certainly pretty scary. Joe Morris has a particularly distinctive and effective tone which reaches through this music like a hot blade through a slab of butter. I don’t think that I’ve heard drummer Mike Pride sound any more brutal or powerful as he whips up a storm on his drums. One of John Zorn’s closest collaborators and quite a dynamic composer/keyboardist/producer himself, Jamie Saft also goes for the gusto by adding some throbbing electric bass and/or ancient mutant synthesizers. If you are patient with this disc, you will see/hear how well it all fits together and evolves from section to section. Without a doubt, this is one this year’s most awesome and overwhelming offerings. Are you brave enough to dig in?!? - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery

Mike Pride's FROM BACTERIA TO BOYS - Betweenwhile (AUM Fidelity) 2010 [CD/DL]

Darius Jones- alto sax
Alexis Marcelo - piano
Peter Bitenc - bass
Mike Pride- drums, compositions
"Often, the quartet is romantic and nearly fauvist, with boppish ebullience [...] or with a garishly fronting blue. Mike Pride s attention to rock, punk, and the idea of having a band has taught him some things, one of which is programming an album (or a series of compositions, for that matter) there s never a flag in this hour of music, building and relaxing tension within pieces that remain shy of the ten minute mark. One has only to hear the pyrotechnics in the curiously-titled Reese Witherspoon and its blend of trance-like states, hip-hop, and spindly classicism to appreciate the cohesion and daring within this group." - Clifford Allen
Photography by Peter Gannushkin, liner notes by Sam Mickens, original painting by Mike Pride on back cover. Recorded ad mastered at the incomparable Systems Two, masterfully mixed by Jamie Saft.
*Buy direct from AUM Fidelity, or download, to receive a free bonus track with FromB2B + Jon Irabagon (alto & sopranino sax), Jonathan Moritz (tenor sax) & Ben Gerstein (trombone), produced and mixed by MP at Funhole Studios.

MARCOS FERNANDES/MIKE PRIDE - A Mountain Is A Mammal (Accretions) 2006 [CD]
Marcos Fernandes- percussion & phonography
Mike Pride- drums, percussion, glockenspiel, laptop & voice
"a mountain is a mammal is about human beings. Science and technology surely had a hand in its evolution but in the end, it's about people. Two people, in fact, and happenstance. Marcos Fernandes (California) and Mike Pride (New York) are two drummers. They met one rainy night in Tokyo while on their respective tours in the Spring of 2005. Collaborations ensued and the two recorded duets one sunny afternoon in New York City. The results showed that there was chemistry. And the proof is in this pressing - a collection of dialogues between two people who passed in the night and met again, days upon days later." - Accretions.com
Mike's first percussion duets document! 3 pieces ranging from minimalism, to maximalism, to drumisms to harsh electronic noise.

"The duo modulates gracefully between genres, maintaining thematic focus from one visceral section to another. Their discourse is relentlessly intense, varying in density and volume, but not activity. PERIOD - s/t (Fucking A Show Releases/Funhole Records) 2006 [CD]Charlie Looker- guitar
Mike Pride- drums
One 24 minute piece of music that could only be a product of Pride & Looker's intense unwavering aproach to composition and improvisation which has been coalescing for the past 5 years. Sonic qualities of the most simple statements mutate and grow in complexity as the music does. This is not your friends' appraoch to minimalism. This hard, loud, focused and violent with never a searching moment. Beautifully recorded with a raw intesity to match this singular music. Guitar and drums music for the next generation.
"Is this some sort of instrumental art-rock with progressive inclinations?...Each note or phrase counts. Charlie plays sharp angular chords as Mike punctuates each of the guitar phases ever so tightly. A slow motion version of the Minutemen without Mike Watt, perhaps?!?" - Downtown Music Gallery
